21. Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me,
what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.
22. And when He had thus spoken, one of the
officers which stood by struck JESUS with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest
thou the high priest so?
23. JESUS answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear
witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?

him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then He shall answer, Those with
which I was wounded in the house of my friends.
Luke 23. 33.
And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there
they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other
on the left.
34. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them;
for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
Christ Given Sour Wine Mixed with Gall
and Refuses to Drink
Matthew
27.34. They gave him vinegar[87] to
drink mingled with gall[88]
(wine[89]
mixed[90]
with myrrh)[91]:
and when He had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

Matthew
27.35-44, Mark 15.24-32, Luke 23.33-43, John 19. 18-27
AΩ
Isaiah 53. 10. Yet it pleased the LORD
to bruise him;
Mark 15. 25.
And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.
Soldiers Gamble for His Clothes[92]
AΩ Psalm 22.18. They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
John 19.23.[93] Then the soldiers, when they had crucified
JESUS, took his garments,
and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat
was without seam, woven from the top throughout.
AΩ
24. They said therefore among
themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that
the Scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among
them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the
soldiers did.
John 19.25.
Now there stood by the cross of JESUS his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the
wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. 26.
When JESUS therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom
He loved, He saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
27. Then saith He to the disciple, Behold thy
mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
AΩ
John 19. 28. After this, JESUS knowing that all things were now
accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
The Sponge Filled with Vinegar
John 19. 29.
Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a sponge
with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.
Mark 15. 36.
One ran and filled a sponge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and
gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to
take him down.
The Crowd Watches Some Standing Some Sitting
Luke 23. 35.
And the people stood beholding.
The
Soldiers
Matthew 27.36.
And sitting down they watched him there;
THIS IS JESUS THE
KING OF THE JEWS
AΩ
Psalm 21. 1. The king shall joy in thy
strength, O LORD; and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!
Revelation 17. The Lamb shall overcome them: for He
is LORD of LORDs, and KING OF KINGS.
Luke 23.38. [95]
And a superscription also was written[96]
over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE
JEWS.[97]
John 19. 20.
This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was
crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and
Latin.
21. Then said the chief priests of the Jews to
Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the
Jews.
22. Pilate answered, What I have written I have
written.
Two Thieves
Crucified with Him
Matthew 27.38.
Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand,
and another on the left.[98]
AΩ
Mark 15. 28. And the Scripture was
fulfilled, which saith, And He was numbered with the transgressors.
Four Cries to Prove He Was King of the Jews
By Coming Down from the Cross
People Revile JESUS, " Come Down
from the Cross"
Matthew
27.39. And they that passed by (railed
on Him)[99]
reviled him, wagging their heads,
40. And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple,
and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, (save thyself) [100]come
down from the cross.[101]
The Rulers Revile Him
Matthew 27. 41.
Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and
elders, said,
42. He saved others; himself he cannot save.[102]
If he be the (Christ) [103]King
of Israel, (the Chosen of
God) [104]let
him now come down from the cross,
Luke 15.31bv that we may see and believe. [105]He
saved others; himself he cannot save.
Matthew 27. 43.
He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he
said, I am the Son of God.
The Soldiers Mock Him with the Same Challenge
Luke 23.36.
And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him
vinegar,
37. And
saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.
The Thieves Also Mock JESUS
Matthew 27. 44.
The thieves also, which were crucified with him, (reviled Him) [106]
cast the same in his teeth.[107]
Luke 23. 39.
And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If
thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
Luke 23.40.
But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God,
seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
41. And we indeed justly; for we receive the due
reward of our deeds: but this Man hath done nothing amiss.
AΩ 42.
And he said unto JESUS, LORD, remember me
when thou comest into thy Kingdom.
Today Shalt Thou Be With Me in Paradise
Luke 23. 43.
And JESUS said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To
day shalt thou be with me in paradise.[108]

AΩ
Isaiah 53.
Surely he
hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken,
smitten of God, and afflicted.
5. But he was wounded for our transgressions,
he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him;
and with his stripes we are healed.
6. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have
turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of
us all.
Matthew 27. 45.
Now from the sixth hour[109] there was darkness over all the land unto
the ninth hour.[110]
AΩ

thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my
roaring[111]?
Isaiah 53. when we shall see him, there is no beauty
that we should desire him.
3. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of
sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him;
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Matthew
27.46. And about the ninth hour JESUS cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli[112],
Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say,
My God,
my God, why hast thou forsaken me? [113]

Mark 15.36 b. saying, Let alone; let us see whether
Elias will come to take him down.[114]

AΩ
Psalm 22. 7. All they that see me laugh
me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,
8. He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver
him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.
Psalm 22.14.
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart
is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. ..17. I may tell all my bones: they look and stare
upon me.

which stood over against him, saw that He so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the SON

Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified GOD, saying, Certainly
this was a righteous man.
