XV. The Generation Jesus Returns to Earth
The purpose of Jesus in Genesis is simply to help Bible students see Jesus Christ in Genesis. Genesis is the Book of Beginnings and as such is especially useful for the study of Christ.
The Bible is its own best commentary, and for that reason we thought it useful to put the New Testament references in line with Genesis text.
In the New Testament, GOD the Holy Spirit, illuminates Christ in Genesis as Creator-Redeemer: from the Creation, the fall, the Flood, Abraham and the patriarchs, even the genealogies.
AΩ The Alpha-Omega sign is inserted every time the word GOD appears in this text, because GOD is from the plural name of GOD,
El-ohim which is proven to be The Trinity throughout
the Bible.
For emphasis, I repeat, every time you read the word God in the Old Testament you should think of the Triune God. Certainly God the Father is ONE with the Holy Spirit and Son from everlasting to everlasting.
For a short thirty-three years while Jesus was incarnate on earth, He made himself a little lower than the angels, and was 100% God and 100% man.
The resurrection was the absolute proof He was God.
Romans 1. 4. And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
Psalm 16. 8. I have set the Lord (JHWH*) always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
9. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. 10. For you will not leave my soul in Hell; neither will you suffer your Holy One to see corruption.
Hebrews 1.8. But unto the Son he saith, Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of your kingdom
AΩ The Trinity
1 John 5. 7. For there are Three that bear record in Heaven, Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these Three are ONE[1].
JHWH* is translated by the KJV, Lord (JHWH*). Some say JHWH*, or Jehovah, but no one knows the Name. In Heaven His NAME will be ONE .
Is Jesus Jehovah God- also called JHWH*?
Around 350 BC Hebrew scribes stopped writing the Name we call Jehovah or JHWH* because of the Commandment
"Thou shalt not take the Name of the LORD (JHWH*) thy GOD in vain."
So, they would not write the Name that was JHWH*, no vowels.
Instead they wrote, Adonai, the Hebrew Name for LORD (JHWH*).
The LXX version carried the Name over into their version with the Koine Greek Name for Lord , Kurios.
The Name of Jesus Christ in Koine Greek is Kurios Insous Xristou, the LORD Jesus Christ.
Jesus is Lord of Lords, and King of Kings.
JHWH* is Jesus Christ, the risen Son of God!
When first-century believers met Jesus they universally exclaimed, "My LORD , and my GOD."
If Jesus were not GOD it would have been idolatry to worship Him.
God the Father said even angels worship Jesus. The sinful woman fell at His feet washing His feet with tears and their hair. Jesus did not forbid her worship. God the Father encouraged worship of His Son in the Book of Hebrews.
Would God break His own commandments? Holy God?
Of course not. We are only to worship the Living God- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit..
Jehovah- Jireh "JHWH* will provide"
Calvary was the mount where the Lord provided Himself as a Lamb for the sin of the world. The Roman centurion gasped, "Truly, this was the Son of GOD."
Jehovah-Nissi, "JHWH* is my banner"
Moses gave this name to an altar he built to celebrate victory in battle. The Song of Solomon said, His banner over me is love." and the Psalmist Psalm 20. 5. We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the Lord (JHWH*) fulfill all thy petitions.
6. Now know I that the Lord (JHWH*) saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy Heaven with the saving strength of his right hand. 7. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the Name of the Lord (JHWH*) our God.
Acts 1. 12. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other Name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
God is Savior.
Paul said in Titus 1. 2. In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
3. But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;
The very Name Jesus means God is Savior.
Jehovah-Shalom "YHWH is peace"
Luke 1. 76. And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
77. To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
78. Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
79. To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
John 14. 27. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Jehovah-Shammah "YHWH is there" The Name Ezekiel givens to the New Jerusalem.
Revelation 21.5. And He that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And He said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
6. And He said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
7. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
Here notice Jesus, the Alpha and Omega saying He will be God!
Jehovah-Tsidkenu "The LORD (JHWH*) our Righteousness"
Jesus died for our sin, and rose again for our justification. He alone is our righteousness.
This Name Jeremiah gives to the King who is to rule over the restored Jerusalem. The King is King Jesus. according to the New Testament.
JHWH*- ropheka "Jehovah who heals"
The Great Physician, Jesus healed lepers, raised the dead, gave sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, speech to mute, and caused paralyzed to walk.
Malachi 4. 1. For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord (JHWH*) of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
2. But unto you that fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
3. And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord (JHWH*) of hosts.
4. Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.
5. Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord (JHWH*):
6. And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
JHWH*- meqaddeshkem "Jehovah who sanctifies"
God the Father sanctified Jesus.
John 10. 36. Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?
37. If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.
Jesus sanctified us by His death and resurrection.
1 Corinthians 6 11. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Hebrews 2. 11. For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
Hebrews 10. 10. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
JHWH* -tsabaoth "Jehovah of Hosts"
This most certainly is Jesus in the Book of the Prophet Zechariah.
Jehovah-elyon "Jehovah
Most High"
Psalm 7. 17. I will praise the Lord (JHWH*) according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the Name of the Lord (JHWH*) Most High.
Compare Psalm 46. 4f and Revelation 21.3f
Psalm 46. 4. There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High.
5. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
Revelation 21. 3. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
JHWH*-roi "Jehovah, my Shepherd" Psalm 23.1
Jesus is the Good Shepherd, the Great Shepherd, and the Chief Shepherd represented in Psalm 22, 23, 24.
Jesus said, I am the Good Shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. John 10.11.
John 10. 27. "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28. And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
30. I and my Father are One."
Hebrews 13. 20. Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that Great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
1 Peter 5. 4. And when the Chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
It was not JHWH*, but Eloi, Eloi. God the Father is Eloi, El and Ab. God and Father. Yet, GOD is One. So, when we say JHWH* or Jesus, Jehovah or JHWH* we are Biblically calling out to our Lord and Our Father God.
When Jesus was on earth HE being 100% God emptied Himself and made Himself of no reputation. In His flesh HE still was the fullness of GOD bodily. When He arose He proved His God-head.
The world will be subdued under Christ. Yet, He submitted Himself to His Father, and in Eternity they will be One.
1 Corinthians 15. 28. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.
TPR 1 Corinthians 15.28.
Philippians 2. 6. (Jesus) who, being in the form of God,
thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
Revelation 21. 5. And He that sat upon the throne said,
Behold, I make all things new. And He said unto me, Write: for these words are
true and faithful.
6. And he said unto me, It
is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him
that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
7. He that overcometh
shall inherit all things; and
I will be his God, and he
shall be my son.
Revelation 1. 8. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the
ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the
Almighty.
Revelation 1.5. And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful
witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the
earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
6. And hath made us kings
and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and
ever. Amen.
Hebrews 1. 8. But unto the Son He (God the Father) saith,
Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the
sceptre of thy kingdom.
Mark 14. 61. Art thou the
Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
62. And Jesus said, I AM:
and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming
in the clouds of heaven.
John 18. 6. As soon then as He had said unto them, I AM
(he), they went backward, and fell to the ground.
John 7. 29. But I know him: for I am from him, and He
hath sent me.
John 8. 23. And He said unto them, Ye are from beneath;
I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
John 8. 24. I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die
in your sins: for if ye believe not that I AM (He), ye shall die in your sins.
John 8. 58. Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say
unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM.
John 11. 25. Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection,
and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.
John 13. 13. Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well;
for so I am.
John 14. 10. Believest thou not that I am in the Father,
and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself:
but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
11. Believe me that I am
in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works'
sake.
Matthew 26. 32. But after I am risen again, I will go before
you into Galilee.
Matthew 27. 40. And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple,
and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come
down from the cross.
Note that Jesus did rise again
three days after they had destroyed the temple- His body, as He said.
Romans 1. 3. Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord,
which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; 4.
And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of
holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:
The saints in Heaven call Jesus, Lord God Almighty.
Revelation 15. 3. And they sing the song of Moses the servant
of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvelous are thy works,
Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints
AΩ Isaiah 44. 6. Thus says the LORD (JHWH*) the King of
Israel, and his Redeemer the
LORD (JHWH*) of hosts; I AM the first, and I AM the last; and beside me there
is no GOD.
The Song of Moses and the Lamb
Revelation 15.
3. And they sing the song of
Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and
marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou
King of saints.
John the Baptist introduced Jesus as, "Behold, the Lamb!"
Compare this to
The Song of Moses
Exodus 15.
1. Then sang Moses and the children of Israel
this song unto the Lord, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the Lord, for he
hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
2. The Lord is my strength and song, and he is
become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my
father's God, and I will exalt him.
3. The Lord is a man of war: the Lord is his
name.
Comparing the two songs of Moses one should readily see that
Jesus is the Lamb and the Man of war. JHWH of armies.
AΩ The
Alpha-Omega sign is inserted every time the word LORD (JHWH*) GOD appears in
this text, because LORD (JHWH*) GOD is from the plural name of GOD, El-ohim.
Jesus is Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End.
This may look strange, but it is there to help us think of Jesus when we see Lord in the Old Testament. Cults and other religions have tainted with error the Name Jehovah and Yahweh because they deny the Father and the Son by their denial that the Son and the Father are One.
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou SHALT (denoting affirmative not future action) be saved and thy house. Acts 16.31
Over and over the Old Testament Scripture repeats "that they may know that I AM the LORD."
If JHWH* seems to you redundant it is repeated so you may also think of Jesus when you read the Name JHWH or Yahweh or Jehovah God. Jesus is JHWH, the Lord God as is God the Father and Holy Spirit.
AΩ The Trinity
1 John 5. 7. For there are Three that bear record in Heaven, Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these Three are ONE[3].
We will search Genesis for all the references of God to learn all we can in the Genesis of Who He is, His names, character and attributes, expectations and dealings with mankind, His promises and warnings.
We will try to apply what we have learned to our daily life.
Each chapter in Genesis we will have a Preview and a Review. The columns on the far right are for your personal study notes.
